Penalties

The court can, of course, either convict or acquit the defendant. If the defendant is convicted, the sentence depends on the court’s conclusions about the accident, as well as the defendant’s driving record, as reflected in his previous convictions.
Possible sentences include the following:
  • A prison term, either served or suspended
  • Community service
  • Deprivation of the right to receive or hold a driving license for a stipulated period. This punishment can be either imposed or suspended
  • A fine
  • Confiscation of the vehicle
The court can impose any of the above-mentioned penalties, more than one of them, or none of them.
