An Accident with Injuries

An accident with injuries is an accident in which at least one person suffers bodily harm, providing that the injury is either medically documented or visible; such an accident is classed as an accident with injuries.
  • As a general rule, people injured in a traffic accident should not be moved. Any movement is liable to aggravate the injury. An injured person should be moved only if not moving him is even more dangerous: for example, a person inside a burning car that is liable to explode.

  • Do not move vehicles involved in the accident, except at the order of a policeman. Moving a vehicle away from the scene of an accident constitutes a criminal offense.

  • Notify the police of the accident immediately (tel. no. 100), giving as many particulars as possible: the location of the accident, the number of people injured, the number of vehicles involved, etc.

  • Safety at the scene of the accident
In many cases, even though an accident has occurred, vehicle traffic on the road continues, and seriously endangers the people and vehicles involved in the accident. In order to prevent further accidents and injuries, take care to warn passing drivers through the use of the emergency signal lights of all the vehicles at the scene and placing a triangle warning sign far enough ahead to warn drivers in time. For example, if the accident occurred after a bend in the road, the triangle signs should be placed before the bend in the direction of the traffic.

Avoid standing in a traffic lane. Stand in the safest place possible, preferably on the shoulder of the road.

  • In this case, follow the instructions given by the police. If a police investigator is on the way, wait for him. If not, follow the instructions of the policeman at the scene of the accident.

  • The police will take evidence from you, either at the scene, or in hospital. Otherwise, they will schedule a meeting with you at the traffic unit nearest to where you live, and take your evidence there.

  • If other people not directly involved also witnessed the accident, write down their names, telephone numbers, and any other details, so that the police may ask for their help in obtaining information about the accident. If you know the particulars of the witnesses, kindly give them to the policeman at the scene of the accident.
